Korea, a peninsular nation surrounded by the sea on three sides, possesses diverse maritime historical resources. However, these materials are dispersed across multiple institutions, limiting accessibility for researchers and the public. In this study, the current status of major maritime-related archives is examined and an integrated platform for the unified management and utilization of maritime history materials is proposed. The proposed platform includes (1) an integrated search system, (2) a type-based classification framework, (3) improved access to historical documents through optical character recognition (OCR) and AI translation, and (4) specialized content development based on each institution’s unique holdings. In addition, recent advances in sensor technologies—such as underwater sonar scanning, environmental monitoring sensors, and 3D imaging systems—have enabled the systematic acquisition and digital preservation of maritime cultural heritage data. These sensor-generated datasets can be integrated into digital archives and platforms, providing high-resolution spatial information on underwater artifacts and shipwreck sites. The study highlights that maritime cultural heritage can serve as a differentiated source for K-content, offering new opportunities in a saturated content market. The platform is expected to enhance maritime history research, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, strengthen cultural accessibility and maritime identity, and support national cultural policy. Ultimately, an integrated maritime history platform will function as essential cultural infrastructure for the modern reinterpretation and global dissemination of Korea’s maritime heritage.
