A series of K(EuxCa1−x)PO4 (x = 0.001, 0.003, 0.01, and 0.03) phosphors were synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction. To evaluate the phase purity of the as-prepared materials, X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns were obtained. Additionally, the photoluminescence (PL) excitation/emission spectra, PL decay curves, and thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) glow curves were studied. The PL spectrum of each specimen showed only characteristic emissions attributed to Eu3+, whereas additional broad emission attributed to Eu2+ appeared after X-ray irradiation. This is clear evidence of radio-photoluminescence (RPL) since new luminescence centers were generated by X-ray irradiation. The RPL emission was pronounced in the 0.1% Eu-doped specimen and decreased with increasing Eu concentration.
